i had to read this for school over the summer, and even though the vocab is pretty challenging, i think if you focus on the main story that the book gets progressively better.
for the lucky souls who didnt have to read this, A Separate Peace is a story about WWII told from the pov of a young man by the name of Gene Forrester, who attends Devon, a northern military academy. One night, Gene, his roommate Phineas (aka Finny), Elwin “Leper” Lepellier, and Brinker Hadley go down to a forest while spending a summer at Devon and try to jump off a tree that seniors have to jump off of for a gym test of sorts (or something like that). the first time only Finny and Gene jump, and it goes ok, but the SECOND time is when the plot apparently kicks off. Finny apparently breaks his leg, and is told by doctors he will be able to walk, but never be able to do sports again (since he was the star athlete at Devon). then all this drama happens, people start saying Gene shoved Finny off the limb on purpose, and all this crap that i dont really want to explain right now because i am writing this at around midnight.
i would rate it 5.5/10: i would read it if i had to and if i was able to get a better explanation of some of the scenes.
anyways, i’ll write a review when i finish maze runner :3
